This is a music video reel I edited for Will Joines, comprised of our collaborations between 2003 - 2006. I didn’t use the original music from each video because it was more fun to cut to music Will and I really loved :)

The first video in the reel is Will’s BFA thesis film, which I did not edit. (He and I met as undergraduate students at UNCSA and started our collaboration after graduating.)

The second video we made in our first year after moving to Los Angeles, a place most of us aspiring filmmakers struggled to adapt to. While we found LA hollow, our collaboration on this project reminded us that we have the capacity to make our own work and to find the joy in craft and creativity outside the demands of a toxic industry.

The third video we made at a time when digital cameras evolved technologically and used cards instead of tapes to record footage. As the editor, I came on set, downloaded the footage, and was able to give feedback on the footage in real time — it was incredible. While there wasn’t a word for it yet, it was my first experience as DIT and I loved it from the start.

The forth video was filmed on a mini DV camera and I’m still blown away by what the cinematographer was able to achieve aesthetically.

The final video was a commissioned project from a local Butoh dance collective. Will built the set with friends and I’m still blown away by what we accomplished on a 10K budget. It was also the first time I got paid a small stipend to make a passion project.
